Don’t miss your opportunity to view the World Masterpieces exhibition, Spirit and Strength, from the annual Husqvarna Viking quilt competition. This magnificent collection of quilts will visit Australia for three weeks only during February 2005. The exhibition showcases 50 finalists out of 138 entries from around the world, with exquisite textile works ranging in style from traditional to contemporary. Following the theme of Spirit and Strength, each quilt is designed to reflect what the artist sees as his or her guiding spirit and strongest quality. The works are created using a range of materials including organza, silks, dyed cottons, sheers, satins and wool with embellishments of threads, braids and buttons. In addition to using sewing machine techniques, the quilting artists have utilised other methods to make their masterpieces; bleaching, melting, burning, appliqué, dyeing and embroidering have all been explored. These quilts will fascinate anyone with a love of textile art, design or fabric. To see the work on display is the only way to truly appreciate the texture, detail and workmanship. You can view this stunning exhibition at the Paddington Town Hall, Sydney, from February 5 – 6, 2005. It will also be on display as part of the Australasian Quilt Convention, February 25 – 27, 2005, at the Melbourne Convention Centre. At both venues, there will be a selection of retailers selling quilt and patchwork specialty products. Stock up on everything you need to get started on your own quilting masterpiece, including fabrics, patterns, glues, buttons, books and quilting machines. So come along, and be inspired by this superb exhibition of quilt art – on display for a limited time only.
